Last week, the Senate unanimously passed S.2283, which designates Guthrie, Oklahoma's post office as the Oscar J. Upham Post Office. Oscar J. Upham was an exceptional Oklahoman. He and his family came to the state during the Oklahoma Land Run and settled just southwest of Guthrie. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 25 and fired the first shot of the Spanish-American War. Later in his service, during the Boxer Rebellion, he earned the Medal of Honor by building barricades under fire to protect himself and his fellow Marines. After his service, he worked as a letter carrier for the Guthrie Post Office for 40 years. I can think of no other honor that is more perfectly fitting than this.
The government may be shut down, but America's Field Trip is back for the 2025-2026 school year! America's Field Trip is a nation-wide contest that invites students in grades 3-12 to share their perspectives on America—with the chance to win extraordinary trips to some of the country’s most iconic landmarks this summer. Students can participate by creating a piece of writing or original artwork that answers one simple question: "What does America mean to you?" I'm sure our Oklahoma students will have no trouble answering this.

During government shutdowns, U.S. Capitol tours are unfortunately closed to the public. However, there is an EXCEPTION. The Democrats can't stop me from personally showing Oklahomans around their U.S. Capitol building. On Wednesday, I met with the Legacy Homeschool of Tulsa and led them through the Capitol Rotunda between votes to reopen the government. It's great to see and visit with Oklahomans while I'm serving in Washington.
