When we launched The Montana Plan earlier this year, we knew there were going to be bumps in the road. That’s because it’s the best chance our country has had to combat Citizens United since it passed almost 15 years ago — and the ultra-wealthy want to stop us.

Here’s the plan: instead of using campaign finance law to try to overturn the decision, we’re using corporation law to make Citizens United irrelevant. Once we pass this ballot initiative in the state of Montana, we will have a precedent that we can use with all 49 other states.

On behalf of the team, I want to say thank you for following along on this journey so far. Right now is the time for people like you to stand up with us, say enough is enough, and fight back against undue corporate influence in our politics — so I hope you’ll join us today.

The people who want to see us fail are preparing legal challenges to keep The Montana Plan off the ballot.They know that if we bring it to a vote, a bipartisan coalition of working people will vote overwhelmingly to pass it. The last time Montanans went to the polls in response to Citizens United, over 70% of them — Democrats, Republicans, and independents — chose to limit corporations!

I served as the Commissioner of Political Practices here in Montana, and personally consulted with multiple legal experts every step of the way, so I know our paperwork is compliant. The legal challenges being threatened are meant to discourage and intimidate us, but we are not backing down!
