Does Democracy Depend on Civility? (Freedom Focus)Restoring our health care system, reclaiming the conservative identity, and defending Nigerian Christians from persecution |
Greetings from all of us at Advancing American Freedom. It’s been two weeks since the government shut down began — but we haven’t stopped advocating for conservative solutions to the relevant issues facing our nation today.
Thank you to all who joined the exclusive webinar yesterday led by AAF Senior Fellow Joel Griffith. We enjoyed a fruitful discussion focused on health care solutions that would lower prices and benefit American families.
Vice President Mike Pence on Ceasefire AAF Founder Mike Pence appeared on the inaugural episode of CSPAN’s Ceasefire, a show dedicated to fostering civil debate and conversation on the relevant political topics of today. He was joined by long-time colleague and Democrat Rahm Emanuel, who served as President Obama’s Chief of Staff and Mayor of Chicago.
The Vice President made it clear that democracy depends on heavy doses of civility. Now, more than ever, conservatives and liberals must choose to abide by this mindset and work harder than ever to help our country thrive.

America Must Defend Nigerian Christians Nigerian Christians are under attack. Terrorist groups like Boko Horam have killed more than 185,000 people — targeting women and church leaders. Their goal? Erase Christianity from Nigeria. The United States must not stand by and watch as thousands are persecuted for their faith every year. It’s our job to withhold trade benefits and other privileges until the rights of Nigerian citizens are restored. AAF Senior Advisor Paul teller writes in his latest op-ed in The Federalist, | "The United States is the leader of the free world. By virtue of our outsized economic and foreign policy power, we should isolate countries, like Nigeria, that enable genocide by withholding trade, benefits, or any other privileges of partnership with the United States of America.” |

Democrats Refuse to End the Shutdown As AAF Chairman Marc Short made clear on Bloomberg, the Democrat’s government-run healthcare system is a disaster. Now, they’re demanding even more taxpayer funding just to keep the program alive. As a result, Americans are left in a cycle where coverage becomes too expensive unless Congress signs off on bigger subsidy checks. Republicans cannot give in — we have to find a better solution that involves less government control and more freedom of choice.
Restoring Freedom and Choice in Health Care This week we hosted a webinar featuring AAF Senior Fellow Joel Griffith and Phil Kerpen, President of American Commitment and Unleash Prosperity. Together, they unpacked what’s at stake if Washington doubles down on failed policies. Also, allowing the expanded Obamacare subsidies to expire is the first step toward rolling back Washington’s health care takeover.
We also discussed how these subsidies distort insurance markets, drive long-term costs, and crowd out private innovation — exploring concrete policy solutions to restore competition and lower prices for American families.

From the Archives: "Rediscovering Order in an Age of Populism" | "Conservatism is far more than a resistance to disorder — it is a promise, a calling, a duty to preserve what is good and cultivate what is enduring. If we hold fast to this charge, we will not only secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves, we will pass down to future generations an America that is strong, free, and truly worthy of its founding ideals.” — Vice President Mike Pence and the late Ed Feulner |
The conservative movement today is in danger of forgetting who we are. For generations, we were defined by a confident, forward-looking vision—rooted in faith, family, and freedom. But in recent years, conservatism has too often drifted into reactionary populism, losing sight of the timeless principles that made it great. As Vice President Mike Pence and the late Ed Feulner emphasized in the summer edition of National Affairs, conservatives must reclaim their identity. AAF is leading the way in helping to restore the proper role of government, defend freedom at home and abroad, and support Free Trade with Free Nations.
