Dear Colleagues,

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are driving opportunity and innovation, especially in science and technology.

Yet, they continue to receive less than one percent of federal research funding.

In our latest blog ([link removed]) , we reflect on a recent report from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and what this means for students, communities, and state economies. When HBCUs don’t get the research support they deserve, it limits local job growth, workforce readiness, and the country’s ability to stay competitive.

We also share steps policy makers can take to help change that: fairer funding formulas, partnerships that open more doors for HBCU research and innovation, and more.
