BREAKING NEWS: Rep. Jonathan Jackson and I just introduced a Constitutional Amendment to restore checks and balances, to make clear that no president can legislate by decree or erase hard-won protections like the Voting Rights Act.

Before I explain, will you sign our petition to make the right to vote a permanent, guaranteed part of our Constitution?

This week, the Supreme Court heard Louisiana v. Callais, a case that could erase what remains of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

At stake is whether millions of Black Americans in Louisiana and across the South will keep the ability to elect representatives who truly reflect their communities or whether decades of civil-rights progress will vanish under the false banner of “colorblind” politics.

At the same time, Donald Trump and his allies are pushing an unprecedented expansion of presidential power that would let the White House rewrite laws and sideline Congress entirely.

Louisiana’s history tells us exactly what happens when voting rights are stripped away. “Color-blind” laws once justified poll taxes and literacy tests, and now they’re being used again to silence Black voters.

We can’t let that happen again.
