John,

Hispanic Heritage Month ended earlier this week, but the stories, culture, and contributions we celebrate don’t fit neatly into one month. They’re part of who we are every single day.

You may not know this about me, but I’m the proud grandson of Mexican immigrants and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

My mother’s parents, Rosendo and Amalia, came to the United States from Mexico in search of a better life. They didn’t have much in the way of money or formal education, but they worked hard, built a family, and believed that if you played by the rules and treated others well, opportunity would follow.

My grandfather became a U.S. citizen later in life, and it was one of his proudest moments. My grandma remained a permanent resident until she passed away. Their story reminds me that the American Dream is real when we make it accessible.

Those values – hard work, dignity, and service – are at the heart of why I ran for Congress, and why I fight every day for clean air, good jobs, affordable healthcare, and a government that actually works for people.

But as we look ahead, there’s more work to do. Republicans in Congress continue to push policies that divide us and threaten the very communities that make our country stronger.

Thank you,

Mike
