This week, I visited Broadview ICE facility that Trump is using as part of his inhumane crackdown in Illinois as part of my oversight responsibilities as a member of Congress.

Here’s what I saw:

Trump’s aggressive immigration enforcement tactics and misuse of the military to intimidate American citizens in their own communities are dangerous and must be stopped.

Illinoisans are peacefully protesting these actions and abiding by law enforcement.

In the last few weeks in Illinois, we’ve seen how the Trump Administration has disregarded public safety and trust in the name of mass deportations:

Masked officers without any sort of identification detaining citizens without explanation in broad daylight. Deploying the National Guard without request of the governor. Calling for the arrest of elected officials.

This is straight out of the dictator playbook, and it has to stop. Right here. Right now.

We cannot let the atrocities happening in our cities go unanswered.

I also met with constituents affected by violence in their communities. I’m proud to be their advocate in the U.S. Senate.

I’m doing everything in my power to stop the Trump Administration from abusing theirs. But I can’t do this important work alone. No one can.
