We are pleased to share another new article in our series published in the Fulcrum by LDAD volunteer Ellen R. Hornstein, who recently retired after 35 years of federal government service: Trump’s Orders Threaten Transgender Americans’ Rights.
Our last several emailings have provided updates on the request by LDAD and its coalition partners to The Florida Bar to investigate and, if appropriate, assess disciplinary measures against Attorney General Pamela Bondi for alleged violations of applicable rules of ethics while she is in office. After The Florida Bar’s immediate refusal to do so, we asked the Florida Supreme Court to require The Florida Bar to carry out its obligation to investigate.
This week, the Florida Supreme Court refused our request and made it official: the Attorney General, the highest-ranking lawyer in the Department of Justice, is above the law and, while in this role, need not comply with the same code of ethics that all other lawyers must follow.
Recently, the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy at Boston College Law School invited LDAD Executive Director Lauren Stiller Rikleen to participate in their program entitled: Sword or Shield? Bar Discipline in a Polarized Era. A recording of that webinar may be viewed here.
