Donald Trump is trying to control America’s universities — deciding who gets hired, what gets taught, and who gets admitted.
This isn’t just another right-wing stunt. Trump’s Department of Education is pushing a new “Compact” that would force schools to surrender control over hiring, curriculum, admissions, even free speech — all in exchange for federal dollars.
It’s censorship. It’s coercion. And it’s the beginning of authoritarian rule.
I just introduced House Bill 1948 to BAN Pennsylvania’s colleges from signing onto this Trump Compact. Because classrooms should be places where students think critically — not where MAGA extremists dictate what’s “acceptable” to say.
Now, after the introduction of HB-1948 — UPenn has done an about face and are refusing to sign the compact. Standing up to Bullies works! I will continue to use every fiber of my being to stop Trump's assault on education.
This is how authoritarianism works:

We’re drawing a line in the sand. This fight is personal for me — for every student who deserves to learn freely, and every teacher who deserves to teach without fear. Our courage sends a clear message: our values are not for sale — and Pennsylvania won’t be bullied into betraying its students.
