The Trump administration recently asked the Supreme Court to strike down the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — a move that could both cripple the nation’s ability to fight COVID-19 and undermine our health care system. 

In an op-ed for USA Today, Commonwealth Fund President David Blumenthal, M.D., shows us what the COVID-19 pandemic would look like without the ACA. He paints a devastating picture: millions losing their health coverage and life-saving protections, hospitals suffering heavy financial losses, and widespread layoffs, among other repercussions.

With no signs the crisis will be ending soon, now is not the time, Blumenthal says, to sabotage health care or add to Americans’ suffering.
