We need robust data to know what we’re up against.

John, effective climate action requires robust data to know what we’re up against. And for many years, the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program has provided just that, gathering climate pollution data from some of the United States’ largest sources.

And now, the Trump EPA wants to get rid of it altogether.

If this happens, it will cloak in secrecy the largest sources of climate pollution in our nation. This is an extreme step to obscure information from the public and undermine climate action. We CANNOT let this happen.

From now until November 3, we have a chance to speak out and defend this vital program. There is a public comment period open that gives all of us the opportunity to use our voice and demand we have access to credible, public climate data. Take action by submitting a comment now [link removed].

Here’s the thing: you can’t fix a problem you don’t understand. Eliminating pollution reporting will not make the problem of climate change go away. It only makes it more expensive and difficult to deal with.

On top of that, it undermines critical pollution standards and erodes confidence in our ability to reduce emissions.

The worst part is that without this data, it will be harder to enact effective climate policy in the future.

This is not the first time the Trump administration has done this. Earlier this year, EDF sued the administration for delaying reporting deadlines. And we won the release of the US Greenhouse Gas Inventory, posting the data publicly on our website.

But now we need people power, and that’s where you come in, John. Join our fight to protect climate data by adding your comment today. [link removed]
