Since its launch in 2002, the Out of the Darkness™ Overnight Walk has become the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s flagship national event. Typically held each summer, The Overnight brings together thousands of people affected by suicide for a night of hope and healing.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to hold The Overnight in person in 2020. Though disappointed, we knew we had to develop a way for our community to connect with each other. This year, we held the first “Virtual Overnight Experience,” featuring a wellness challenge, social media activities, and a virtual program. You can watch the virtual program through The Overnight’s Participant Portal, and read a recap of this very special event.
We'd like to thank our sponsors, Alkermes and Sunovion, for their support, as well as our tech sponsors, Qumu and CDVS, for making our program possible.
While the event this year was different than we had expected, we were able to continue to honor loved ones we've lost to suicide, support those who may be struggling, and support and honor ourselves and each other. We thank our extraordinary participants, supporters, donors, and staff for making this experience so special and so successful!
