We are living in unprecedented times that require us to bring forth an unprecedented response. The same old, same old is just not good enough.

At a time when so few have so much while so many have so little, we need to create an economy that works for all of us, not just the billionaire class.

At a time when 100 million Americans lack health insurance, and 60,000 people die each year because they don't get to a doctor on time, we need to make health care a human right and move toward Medicare for All.

At a time when our nation is ravaged by police brutality and murder, and when African-American families have one-tenth the wealth of white families, we need to end systemic racism and all forms of bigotry.

At a time when our childcare network is collapsing, and when school districts across the country lack the funds to provide young people decent K-12 education, we need to create the highest-quality educational system in the world.

And, in the midst of all of that, we cannot forget for a moment the existential threat that climate change poses to our planet.

Unbelievably, the temperature in Siberia, one of the coldest regions on earth, was recently a record-breaking 100 degrees — with wildfires raging there and sea ice melting.

But that's not all. Year after year, across the world, we've seen more drought, more famine, more rising sea levels, more floods, more ocean acidification, more extreme weather disturbances, more disease and more human suffering.

What the scientists are telling us very clearly is that if we, and countries around the world, do not act boldly within the next few years in transforming our energy systems away from fossil fuel and into energy efficiency and sustainable energy, the planet we will be leaving our kids and future generations will become increasingly unhealthy and uninhabitable.

We cannot allow that to happen.

The good news is that in the last week we've had two big decisions, including one from the Supreme Court, to stop construction of the Keystone and Atlantic pipelines from moving forward. This is real progress and a tremendous victory for grassroots activists who organized against the pipelines and against our dependence on fossil fuel.

But we've got to continue applying pressure at every level.

Now more than ever, we need a Green New Deal to effectively address the existential threat of climate change. If we do not act boldly and aggressively to transform our global energy system away from fossil fuels within the next few years, there will be irreparable harm done to the planet.

That is why I am asking you directly:

Please add your name to say you support a Green New Deal and to call on Democratic leadership to take bold, unprecedented action to save our planet.

At a time when millions of Americans are unemployed, we must get our people back to work by transforming our energy system to 100 percent renewable energy.

With a Green New Deal, we can meet the challenges of this moment and create millions of jobs in the process. These jobs will be good-paying jobs building the new electric cars and high-speed rail systems that we need, weatherizing millions of homes and buildings, rebuilding our nation's infrastructure, and generating sustainable energy.

During this difficult time in American history, we must not turn to despair. Now is the time to fundamentally rethink our national priorities and imagine the kind of country that we want to become.

We can end the greed of the fossil fuel industry that has brought us to the brink of an unprecedented disaster.

We can transform our energy system and create 20 million good-paying jobs.

We can create an economy free of carbon emissions.

We can do all of this with a Green New Deal. Can I count on you to add your name today?

Sign the petition to say you support a Green New Deal and to demand that Democratic leadership act immediately to save our planet from the existential threat of climate change.
