Hello,

It’s unacceptable that House Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to swear in newly-elected Adelita Grijalva for partisan interests.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes recently sent a letter threatening legal action against the Speaker for failing to confirm Grijalva in a timely manner, and we unequivocally support her efforts. Every day that Representative Grijalva remains on the sidelines, her constituents lose their right to be heard.

We need to send Speaker Johnson a strong message that we aren’t buying his excuses for a second and to swear in Rep. Grijalva so she can start representing her constituents in Congress.

--------Forward Message--------

Hello,

The House is officially back in session and Adelita Grijalva’s confirmation was delayed yet again.

The state of Arizona formally certified the result of the special election today, but Representative Grijalva still remains unconfirmed. House Speaker Mike Johnson put his own interests above the will of the American people.

His actions go past bureaucratic stalling — they undermine the principles of a fair and representative democracy. Arizona voters have chosen their representative, and they deserve immediate, unimpeded representation free from partisan obstruction.

Adelita Grijalva is a proud Voting Rights Fund champion who has spent her career fighting for fair elections and equal representation, yet Speaker Johnson is holding her seat hostage for political gain. Just months ago, he swore in two Republican members within hours of their elections.

Voting Rights Fund is demanding that Speaker Johnson confirm Representative Grijalva without any further delay. We're also standing shoulder to shoulder with Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes in her formal demand for certification.

If you believe that partisan bullies should never supersede the will of the American people, please support our year-round work today to help us fight back against partisan obstruction and support champions of democracy like Adelita Grijalva »
