As the federal government shutdown continues, Maryland families continue to bear the brunt.
Approximately 750,000 federal workers nationwide are furloughed or working without pay.
In Maryland, where the federal government is the largest employer, over 15,000 federal jobs have been lost this year alone — the most in the nation. This includes vital positions at agencies such as the CDC, IRS, and Social Security Administration.
The ripple effects are real: families are struggling to pay bills, local businesses are losing customers, and essential services are strained.
During crises like this, we must come together as a community. Help your neighbors if you can, check in on friends and family, and support local businesses and nonprofits that are stretched thin.
As Marylanders, we know that when we lift each other up, we are stronger — and together, we can get through this.
Thank you for looking out for one another during these difficult times.
Onward,
