HERE'S HOW YOU CAN STAY UPDATED AND INVOLVED!
Hello Friend,
We know that COVID19 has hurt our state tremendously. We are facing a
budget crisis that cannot be solved by making one or two cuts. Our workers
are hurting. Many families still haven’t gotten unemployment and are
struggling to afford basic necessities.
In light of these issues, Governor Sisolak has called for a [ [link removed] ]Special
Session, which is starting TODAY at 9:00 AM, to address the budget deficit
stemming from COVID19. During this session, our legislators will be forced
to make deep cuts to various parts of our state budget. We know this is a
difficult time but we must encourage them to fight to protect crucial
parts of our budget.
Here’s how you can participate:
Step 1: [ [link removed] ]Read the proclamation to convene a special session issued by
Governor Sisolak. This essentially lays out what the legislature will be
working on during this special session. [ [link removed] ]Also, read the fiscal report
from the Governor’s office which includes proposed cuts and information on
how to roll back cuts if federal funding comes through and/or the economic
landscape in Nevada changes.
Step 2: [ [link removed] ]Sign up for a NELIS account if you don’t have one already. This
will allow you to get email notifications from the Legislative Counsel
Bureau and as things get scheduled.
Step 3: View meetings, floor sessions and provide public comment. Aside
from NELIS, [ [link removed] ]there’s a YouTube channel where you can watch proceedings
live and archived meetings as well. Here’s how you can provide public
comment today:
Step 4: Follow us on [ [link removed] ]Twitter and [ [link removed] ]Facebook to stay updated on
everything going on in Carson City!
We need to push for real, long-term changes that will close the gap on
inequality, protect our workers, prioritize our children’s education, and
provide real care for those suffering from mental illness. These are our
most vulnerable populations. The budget cannot and must not be balanced on
the backs of hardworking Nevadans and our kids. Wealthy Nevadans and big
businesses can and should pay their fair share so our state can
successfully recover from this pandemic.
We will continue sending regular communications as the Session progresses
so everyone is up to date on the latest information concerning this
important legislative session!
Thank you,
Battle Born Progress
PS: During this Special Session, our Executive Director Annette Magnus
will be monitoring the legislative process, talking to electeds and
activists, and live-streaming updates. [ [link removed] ]Can you donate to help cover our
