Washington’s “Open Borders, Open Licenses” Policy Hits a Dead End

Washington state’s Department of Licensing is under fire after it improperly handed a full-term commercial driver’s license to Harjinder Singh — an illegal immigrant who later made an unlawful U-turn on Florida’s Turnpike, killing three people. Federal officials confirmed asylum seekers and those without legal status are not eligible for CDLs, but apparently that memo got lost somewhere between Olympia’s virtue signaling and actual law enforcement.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called the state out publicly, saying Washington “improperly issued” the license, prompting an FMCSA investigation into both Washington and California’s lax licensing practices. Now, in the wake of tragedy, Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R–Wyoming) is pushing for tougher English proficiency rules to ensure truckers can at least read road signs — a bar apparently too high for some blue states.

Washington’s DOL now claims it’s “working on compliance” and has paused issuing non-domicile CDLs while scrambling to meet new federal rules requiring stricter ID checks and limiting eligibility to certain visa holders. Meanwhile, the State Patrol says it’s not doing anything special to address the issue — just passing the buck back to DOL.

So after years of “inclusive” policies, Washington Democrats are learning the hard way that trucking safety isn’t a social experiment — and the cost of their negligence was three innocent lives. Read more at Center Square.

Pramila Jayapal’s Ceasefire Suddenly Goes Silent

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D–Seattle) spent months shouting “ceasefire now” from every rooftop, blaming Israel for defending itself and painting Hamas as some kind of scrappy freedom movement. But now that a ceasefire actually happened — hostages freed, aid flowing, and Hamas executing Palestinians in Gaza’s streets — she’s gone completely quiet. Funny how that works.

This is the same Jayapal who once declared Israel a “racist state” at a progressive conference, only to backpedal when the backlash hit. Her so-called apology was as flimsy as her moral compass. Now, while innocent Palestinians are being gunned down by Hamas thugs, Jayapal can’t muster a single word of condemnation.

Her silence isn’t compassion — it’s complicity. She can’t denounce Hamas without shattering the far-left narrative she’s built her brand on: Israel bad, terrorists misunderstood. A real ceasefire requires defeating Hamas so peace can exist; Jayapal’s version just requires Israel to stop existing.

So while the blood dries and Hamas turns its guns on its own people, Jayapal’s X feed remains frozen — not out of ignorance, but because acknowledging the truth would expose everything she’s been selling. In the end, her silence says what she never will: she’s not for peace — she’s against Israel. Read more at Seattle Red.

Seattle’s Progressive Bus Tour Rolls Into Spokane

Seattle’s activist factory, The Washington Bus, is rolling east — literally — to meddle in Spokane’s local elections. The 501(c)(4) group is paying young canvassers $18.50 an hour, covering their travel, lodging, and meals, to push “pro-youth” (translation: far-left) candidates like Councilmember Zack Zappone and Sarah Dixit. Their goal? Flip the Spokane City Council to a solid progressive majority.

The Bus’s tax-exempt twin, The Washington Bus Education Fund, technically runs the activist “boot camp” training and claims neutrality under federal nonprofit rules. But once the graduates hop off the bus, their marching orders are clear: elect Democrats.

Zappone, unsurprisingly, is thrilled about the imported reinforcements, saying statewide groups “help get people connected.” Spokane residents, however, aren’t as eager to be “connected” to Seattle politics. His conservative challenger, Christopher Savage, called it what it is — outside interference. “He’s busing in help because he can’t win on local support,” Savage said.

Even as Zappone tries to deflect by pointing out his opponent’s Idaho backer, the irony is hard to miss: one guy has a retired friend across the state line, while the other’s importing paid foot soldiers from 280 miles away.

So as Spokane voters brace for door-knockers fresh off I-90, one thing’s clear — when Seattle progressives can’t win hearts and minds at home, they just bus the ideology elsewhere. Read more at Seattle Red.
