End the Covid emergency spending.
<[link removed]>

Hello John,

Congressional Democrats say they won’t vote to reopen the government unless
Congress rescues Joe Biden’s bumped-up Obamacare subsidy scheme.

First, the facts. The Obamacare subsidies at issue were initially passed as
part of the American Rescue Act to help Americans get through Covid. Biden
increased the amount of the subsidies and expanded the number of Americans
eligible for this government assistance.

Biden called his bill “an economic bridge through the crisis,” saying it was
“critical to meet the moment and tackle the urgent public health and economic
crises the Nation faces as a result of COVID-19.”

⛔ Here’s the problem with Biden’s handouts.

First: These subsidies have outlived their purpose, cost taxpayers a
staggering $40 billion a year, and every dollar goes directly to health
insurance companies — patients never see a penny.

Second: This system has led to average deductibles of around $5,000, which,
for many families, is like having no insurance at all. So when you hear liberal
politicians say this fight is about “helping families,” don’t believe it.

✅ But we have a simple solution.

At AFP, we believe we can do better than rewarding a failed system with more
of your money. Instead of continuing this wasteful spending, Congress should
let the temporary credits expire as promised. Here are four key reasons why:

* The pandemic is over. These credits were a temporary measure for a
temporary crisis. It’s time to move on.
* We can’t afford it. This expansion has pushed the ACA program’s cost to
$125 billion a year, adding to a national debt that already exceeds $37
trillion.
* It’s rife with fraud. Experts estimate that at least $27 billion is wasted
annually on phantom enrollees and improper payments. In 29 states, the number
of people claiming to be eligible for free coverage exceeds the actual number
of people in that income group.
* It drives up costs. With nearly half of recipients paying nothing for their
insurance, there is no incentive to shop for value. This fuels inflation and
raises prices for everyone.
In the current system built by the Democrats, there is no transparency, no
shopping for value, and no competition. But there is plenty of waste, fraud,
and abuse. It has to stop.

We will be making a major effort to stop this Biden-era taxpayer rip-off, and
we’d like your help.
