Hi Friend,

As you’ve probably heard, Republicans in Congress have shut down the government and are refusing to return to Washington to negotiate a deal to reopen it. But what is this fight about?

Democrats have been very clear: we’re asking Republicans to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, reverse Medicaid cuts, and protect Congress’s power of the purse. Without ACA tax credits, many people will see their premiums increase by hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars next year. That means millions of Americans will become uninsured because they simply can’t afford their plans.

And now, it’s getting real.

Yesterday, California residents covered by ACA Marketplace plans began receiving notices from their insurance companies about increased premiums and reduced subsidies.

If you received a notice from your insurance company or are concerned that your health insurance premiums will rise, please share your story with me here:

Sharing screenshots or documents of your rising health care costs helps me convince my Republican colleagues in Congress that this is a crisis that needs urgent action.

Not sure if your premiums will go up? You can check and compare plans with this tool through Covered California: https://apply.coveredca.com/lw-shopandcompare/

I will never stop fighting to lower your health care costs and to guarantee everyone access to care.

Warmly,
