I wanted to reach out personally to you, John.
Republicans have refused to work with Democrats on a responsible budget, and I’m deeply concerned about what their partisan brinkmanship means for our community.
Under their current budget proposal,
25,000 people in CA-27 would see their health care costs skyrocket if ACA tax credits expire, and 40,000 could lose coverage entirely due to massive Medicaid cuts.
I was elected to fight for affordable health care, so you’d better believe I refuse to support any budget that hurts the people I represent. Full stop.
And during this shutdown, I’ve tried to live those values. While federal workers and active duty military go without pay, I’ve chosen to donate my congressional salary to Meals on Wheels in Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley. I’m also pushing for the
No Pay for Congress During Default or Shutdown Act to bar members of Congress from getting paid during any shutdown.
If Washington can’t do its job, politicians shouldn’t get paid. It’s as simple as that. This shutdown reminds me why I ran for Congress in the first place: to stand up for those who can’t afford to be political pawns.
Thank you,
George
