It’s time for the truth to come out.

Mikie Sherrill for Governor

Team,

I wanted to share a quick note on the news of the past week.

My opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, has run for governor three times on his supposed small business experience. But he’s generally light on details when he talks about it, and there’s a reason for that.

Here are the facts: Jack owned a publishing company that received millions from the opioid companies to publish misinformation that minimized the risks of opioid addiction.

The materials were used in Continuing Medical Education courses — courses that doctors are required to take to maintain their licenses and said things like “the risk of opioid misuse is low” for patients who do not have pre-existing substance abuse problems.

As if that weren’t enough, his company was even paid by one of the opioid makers to produce an online tool and companion app that coached patients on what to say to their doctors to get an opioid prescription through interactive role-playing exercises. Internal documents even described it as a “choose your own adventure” style product.

We’ve compiled the evidence here, and encourage you to read it for yourself.

READ THE MATERIALS

Every New Jerseyan knows someone who was affected by the opioid crisis.

There are tragic stories everywhere you turn — the student athlete who was prescribed opioids after an injury, the parent who was hurt on the job, the families and friends who did everything they could to help a loved one, but had few resources at a time opioid companies were pushing these pills everywhere, telling the doctors, patients, and the public they were safe.

The opioid companies made billions. Jack made millions. Tens of thousands of our friends, family members, and neighbors died.

Meanwhile, Jack has taken no accountability, or even shown remorse for his actions. He has shown he doesn’t have the judgment or integrity to be governor.

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
Mikie
