This is Patti O’Neil, Chair of the Maricopa County Democratic Party, which represents over 65% of Arizona’s registered voters. I’m reaching out today to share the important work Unity Rising USA is doing and why it’s so critical to support young people in politics.
We all know Turning Point USA—an extremist organization that targets young people in high schools and colleges nationwide. With over 3,500 chapters across the country, their influence on the next generation is both alarming and dangerous.
Unfortunately, Democrats have not had a comparable organization. The results are clear: in 2024, Democratic support among young voters dropped by 6%. In many close races, that margin was decisive.
Unity Rising USA is stepping up to fill this gap. Their mission is simple but critical: build a nationwide network of campus chapters that will empower young Democrats, push back against Turning Point and this far-right extremism we are seeing in so many young Americans, register voters, and ensure we don’t lose a generation of voters to MAGA extremism.
This work could not be more urgent. The Democratic Party is bleeding voters, and Politico recently reported leaked pictures of a Young Republican leaders’ group chat showing admiration for Adolf Hitler and countless pro–white supremacy comments.
We need to support groups like Unity Rising now more than ever. We are in the process of losing millions of Americans to a brand of the GOP that normalizes hatred, racism, and white supremacy. And they're already doing the work. Just the other day, one of their high school chapters registered 100 voters in only two hours.
Unfortunately, like many Gen Z organizations, they’re underfunded and need our support to expand, grow, and succeed in this important fight.
