Dear Friend,

I wanted to take an opportunity to update you on my recent work during the month of September in Washington, D.C., and Connecticut.

While government is shut down due to President Trump refusing to work with Democrats, I continue fighting to protect health care and lower costs for hardworking Americans. I remain ready to negotiate and work in a bipartisan manner to reopen the government.

I will continue to use my voice as your Representative to speak up and not back down from the fight against these devastating cuts. For a more detailed look at what the Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Law” and government shutdown means for you or your loved ones, please subscribe to our eNewsletter here. My office will continue to send out the most updated information.

Last month, I continued to lead in several Appropriations Committee markup meetings where I fought to protect crucial funding for programs that directly support biomedical research, public education funding, consumer protection services, and assistance for those who need it most.

You can read my statements at each Full Committee hearing below:

I also signed Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie’s bipartisan petition to release all Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation files on Jeffrey Epstein. Survivors deserve justice, and we must protect women and children, not pedophiles.

While Connecticut families are struggling with soaring utility bills, the Trump Administration’s most recent attack on clean energy increases electricity bills, reduces grid reliability, and eliminates good-paying jobs in our state. With bipartisan support, Congress successfully blocked a measure that would have further delayed the offshore wind energy project, Revolution Wind, by requiring the Department of Defense to re-review the project. This project supports more than 2,500 jobs and, once complete, will power nearly 350,000 homes in Connecticut and Rhode Island and save families hundreds of millions of dollars on electric bills. I will continue to fight for the completion of the nearly complete Revolution Wind project, which is slated to start powering Connecticut next year.

Working families are stretched to the breaking point in this cost-of-living crisis, yet the U.S. remains the only industrialized nation without paid leave. On September 16th, I reintroduced the FAMILY Act alongside Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Only 27 percent of the workforce have paid family leave through their employers. Regardless of political affiliation, the creation of a national paid family and medical leave program has strong support among the American people. My bill would address our country’s paid leave crisis and benefit hardworking people, families, and businesses. To watch a filmed broadcast of our joint press conference, click here.

I joined other members of the Connecticut delegation in the House and Senate to write to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin to hold polluters accountable and to listen to scientists. Climate change is a significant threat to Connecticut with rising sea levels and extreme weather. The Environmental Protection Agency must have the resources it needs to do its job. Click here to read our full letter to Administrator Zeldin.

It was an honor to meet with the new Italian Ambassador, Marco Peronaci. As co-chair of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, I am committed to strengthening U.S.-Italy relations to maintain our important alliance.

In Hamden, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and I stopped by Superior Spring, a small business in our community that is feeling the harmful impacts of reckless tariffs. We are living through a cost-of-living crisis, and President Trump is making it worse. I will keep fighting against these disastrous trade policies.

I was proud to announce a new $10.855 billion contract to Sikorsky, which will support local high-paying jobs, boosting our state’s economy and strengthening our national defense. Sikorsky has built the finest helicopters in the world since opening over a century ago in our very own district. They will continue this work under this contract by making up to 99 new CH-53K helicopters for the Marine Corps.

On September 30th, the day before the government shut down, I put forward a plan to keep the government open while addressing health care costs and ensuring that the Trump administration follows the law. President Trump opposed it. Republicans in Congress then went home on an extended vacation, while Democrats were here ready to work to resolve the shutdown. I attempted to offer my plan again after the government shut down, but they refused to allow the debate on the House floor. The House has now been adjourned since September 19th, despite the government shutdown. Please rest assured I am continuing to fight to lower costs, cancel budget cuts, and save your health care.
