Dear John,

Yesterday, the court in Lighthiser v. Trump ([link removed]) — the first federal constitutional climate case of its kind — dismissed our youth plaintiffs’ case.

The judge recognized the truth:
* That climate change is a “children’s health emergency.”
* That President Trump’s fossil fuel orders are harming these youth right now.
* That the evidence overwhelmingly proves those orders will increase U.S. carbon emissions by 205 million tons by 2027.

But after acknowledging all of that, he said his hands were tied by precedent and “reluctantly” dismissed the case — even inviting the Ninth Circuit to correct him so the youth can finally be heard on the merits.

For the plaintiffs, that contradiction was irreconcilable.

They are right. The court is wrong on its power to do something. And, the youth refuse to give up.

These 22 young people are taking this fight to the Ninth Circuit to affirm what our Constitution demands: that the right to life and liberty belongs to our children — not to polluters.

This ruling is a painful setback, but it won’t stop us. We’re in this together, and your belief in this work gives us the strength to keep going.

Stand with the youth. Power the appeal.

Your gift today will power the next phase of this historic fight — funding appellate briefs and argument, our work with partners across the country, and direct support for the youth plaintiffs as they head back to court.

Thanks to our allies, experts, and supporters for standing up for these young people. You lift them and all of us up.

We’ll keep you informed every step of the way as we take this case to the Ninth Circuit — together, as allies in the fight for justice, for the Constitution, and for every generation’s right to a livable future.

With gratitude and determination,

Julia Olson & Mat dos Santos
