"Persistence has always been our strength at Di Ramona."

Daniela Tellez, Director of SAAF grantee partner Di Ramona is a proud feminist dedicated to improving abortion access and sexual freedoms in Mexico. We carried out interviews with Daniela and her team to discuss their achievements since first receiving SAAF funding in 2022. In this time Di Ramona has supported almost 10,000 people to access safe abortion options and continue to provide logistical and emotional support to people seeking safe abortion care in Mexico.

"Thanks to SAAF, we are able to have our own place to work and receive the people we support. Thanks to SAAF, we now have a core staff with fixed salaries that are competitive for the sector, which has given us a level of sustainability that we never thought we would achieve.

Di RAMONA would not be what it is today - a national benchmark in supporting access to safe abortion and the implementation of legal abortion - if it were not for SAAF's funding."

"We have been able to speak openly about abortion."

Roxana works on communications for Di Ramona and first joined as a volunteer when she was at university:

"I had actually experienced an abortion earlier in the year that I started at Di Ramona. I had gone through my own abortion without any support and was quite surprised once I joined Di Ramona and discovered that support structures existed close by, but I had known absolutely nothing about them.

Recognising myself as someone who now works on abortion has been both fascinating and beautiful, because I get to listen to the stories of others whom we accompany. Sometimes it is overwhelming to realise that we are truly helping to change lives, to improve lives, and to support people to continue their plans and dreams."

"After the abortion, I felt at peace."

As well as speaking with Di Ramona's staff, our team was also able to hear from those who have benefitted from their support. One such story is featured on our website:

"I came to Di Ramona and they supported me in a very humane and loving way. I felt absolute trust, and there was never a moment when I felt judged. After the abortion, I felt at peace. It was, in some ways, even a beautiful experience, because I was surrounded by women, with no prejudice hanging over me. I continue to believe it was the best decision I could have made. I am very grateful."
