Fellow American, these shocking numbers are part of Open the Books’ proprietary database of public spending at all levels of government – the largest of its kind in human history.
My team and I are dedicated to posting EVERY dime the government spends online, in real time, in service of the transparency and accountability our government sorely needs.
Our work has its roots in the Federal Funding Accountability Act of 2006, a landmark transparency bill that led to ALL federal spending being put online in a searchable database for the first time.
This was a good first step toward launching the transparency revolution.
But it wasn’t enough.
It took too long to post the data, and federal agencies stonewalled the law’s efforts to shine a light on their operations.
So in 2011, our late founder, Adam Andrzejewski, started Open the Books to provide real time oversight into public spending and government waste, fraud, and abuse.
Now, thanks to our database, Open the Books stands alone in its ability to assess tens of trillions of dollars in public spending.
This includes spending by the IRS to arm itself – literally – against American taxpayers.
