John,

With all that’s going on right now, we want to make sure you don’t miss the news about an anti-voter proposal that’s before the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) right now.

The America First Legal Foundation submitted a petition to the EAC that would require Americans to submit a passport, birth certificate, or other proof of citizenship documents to register to vote.

This is serious cause for concern as this move could disenfranchise many Americans — from communities of color and students to women and people living in rural areas. On top of this, it’s redundant since states already have voter identification and eligibility verifications in place, AND it’s an unnecessary, unfunded administrative burden for election offices that are already doing so much with the little resources they have.

We’ve heard that supporters of the proposal have been flooding the EAC with comments backing the petition. We need to meet that energy and show that Americans are against this anti-voter proposal — will you submit a comment to the EAC to show them how many of us are against this?

Click here to submit your comment and speak out against this proposal. You can say something like the below — or personalize it:

I oppose requiring Americans to submit proof of citizenship documents to register to vote. Not only would this disenfranchise millions of Americans, but it would also put unnecessary administrative burdens on election officials without the proper funding to help make it happen — all while duplicating safeguards that already exist.

Submitting a comment takes just a few minutes and the deadline to submit is October 20! We hope you’ll raise your voice against this proposal.

Thank you,
