Dear John,
It’s Jane Fonda, Kerry Washington, John Legend, Alan Cumming, and John
Leguizamo. You may know us from our work on the stage and screen, but
something else we all have in common is that we are all longtime activists
and champions for grassroots organizing. We recently relaunched The
Committee for the First Amendment to fight against government attacks on
free speech that are part of the authoritarian playbook. We stand with No
Kings in this work and encourage you all to join a protest on October 18.
Already, nearly 2,500 protests are planned in every single state and even
internationally. That's more events than the first No Kings protests in
June, and is on track to be the largest peaceful protest in modern
American history. We're working with a broad coalition of progressive
organizations, and the movement is growing. Every time the administration
chips away at our freedoms, our movement grows stronger—proof that the
people will not back down, because power belongs to the people. America
has no kings. This country does not belong to rulers or billionaires. It
belongs to us, and we will defend it.
[ [link removed] ]Will you join us on October 18 to show that America has no kings? That
when we stand together, we can drown out authoritarianism with the voices
of everyday people demanding freedom?
We'll be in the streets for immigrant families under attack and for voters
who are being silenced. For communities being terrorized by militarized
policing. For families who are about to lose their health insurance. And
for every single person whose rights are threatened by this
administration's cruelty.
He governs like his rule is absolute. But America has no kings. [ [link removed] ]Will
you join No Kings on October 18 and be a part of the biggest day of
peaceful protest in modern American history?
As performers and activists, the connection between those bodies of work
is that we’re in a profession of empathy, as well as openness to the human
experience. And that is part of why we’re asking you to join No Kings on
October 18. This movement is carried by millions. It belongs to the people
who care, who show up, who fight for equity and dignity for all.
No thrones. No crowns. No kings.
Thanks for all you do.
With love,
Jane, Kerry, John, Alan & John
