Texas’ blanket abortion ban has created a public health crisis extending far beyond abortion access: from the start, it has been a religious bludgeon used to threaten women and pregnant people’s bodily autonomy and restrict their access to lifesaving care – including pre-natal care and cancer screenings.

Let me make myself clear: this is nothing to celebrate or to praise God about. This is a medical, ethical, and legal crisis pushing families into a corner and forcing them to make gut-wrenching decisions no one should ever have to face.

Texas’ abortion laws are among the most extreme in the country, and have caused irreparable harm to women and families throughout our communities. Not only is reproductive care being compromised, but healthcare providers are being forced into impossible positions, endangering the lives of women and pregnant people when they need care the most.
