October marks Black History Month — a significant time for us all to come together to celebrate the achievements, cultures, and contributions of Black people throughout history and today.
This year’s theme, *"“Standing Firm in Power and Pride”"*, calls us to honour the strength, perseverance, and excellence of Black leaders, activists, and pioneers - past, present, and future - whose bravery, sacrifice, and influence have and will continue to inspire us all.

‘Sounds of West Africa’ in the Castle

Join us for an enchanting afternoon, as we bring the vibrant spirit of the Sounds of Africa [ [link removed] ] to Nottingham. In celebration of Black History Month, talented performing artists perform West African Music and dance to share the essence of the rich musical heritage.
Music performance will feature in the Art Gallery and South Stairs, as part of your standard admission [ [link removed] ] to Nottingham Castle.
Standard Admission – Pay once, visit all year round – Adults: £15, Kids Go Free (up to 15 years, 3 per paying adult).
*Music for ambiance only. No seating, walk through the museum only. Space subject to capacity.*

Diwali at Nottingham Castle

Join us for an enchanting day, as we bring the vibrant spirit of Diwali to Nottingham!
In celebration of Diwali, talented performers will showcase classic and contemporary music & dance, capturing the essence of the rich musical heritage of Diwali. Music and dance performance will feature in the Long Gallery as part of your Standard Admission [ [link removed] ] to Nottingham Castle, as well as free dance workshops to participate in.
Diwali known to many as the ‘Festival of Light', is the most celebrated festival in India and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. The festival, which means different things to different religions and people is celebrated over five days in late autumn and people light diyas and entrances of homes are decorated with rangolis. The festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance and it is also a propitious time for new endeavors. The exchange of gifts is also traditional during this holiday, and many people host dinners and Diwali parties.

Performing artist and students showcasing Kathak Dance. Ankita Sethi is a trained Indian Classical Kathak dancer. She has completed her Masters in Kathak under guru Nandini Singh ji and Prerana Shrimali ji. Ankita has performed in many festivals all over the world and she has been teaching Kathak from the last 15 years. She's also been teaching Kathak Dance at the NAAC Music & Dance Academy from the last 7 years and helping students to do their grading in Kathak exams.

Join us for an inspiring afternoon celebrating the vibrant art of Bollywood dance with Dr. Chitra Acharya. With close to three decades of dedicated volunteering in our community, Chitra brings a wealth of experience and passion to her teaching. This workshop promises to be a remarkable opportunity to immerse yourself in the colourful world of Bollywood dance. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned dancer, come and enjoy a dynamic session that highlights culture, movement, and community spirit.

Our NAAC Music & Dance Academy classes take place every Wednesday from 5:30pm-8:00pm @ Radford Academy, Denman Street West, Radford, Nottingham NG7 3FL. Come join us, for fitness, Yoga & Wellbeing at Wollaton and Newstead; or come along to learn a new dance move, an instrument, singing, make new friends and have some fun.
