What to Expect When You’re Expecting

the Apocalypse

What to Know: A New York Times piece says that climate change is linked to pregnancy risks.

The TPPF Take: The facts say that this is the best time in human history to be pregnant.

“Global maternal mortality is at its lowest rate in recorded history and extremely rare in the U.S.,” says TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “Infant mortality is declining at an even faster rate. Average life expectancy for a child born today in the U.S. is 79 years with a level of health and prosperity unimaginable to previous generations.”

Gun Sales Surge

What to Know: Retailers are selling out of guns and ammunition nationwide.

The TPPF Take: People have a right to defend themselves and their families—that’s what’s enshrined in the Second Amendment.

“Like the rest of the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment is a direct response to the predations of the English Crown upon the American colonists,” says TPPF’s Derek Cohen. “The right to keep and bear arms exists as one of the most foundational liberties of free citizens of a republic.”

Training our Police

What to Know: A study shows a wide disparity in police training in different departments.

The TPPF Take: It’s time to get serious about police training.

“For too long, police training—particularly in physical skills—has not followed any model that makes sense,” says TPPF’s Randy Petersen. “That must change because it is physical action in the form of force that makes up most of the high profile police action failures we see. Training must include a myriad of things that can prevent the need for force as well, but it is the use of force, improperly applied, that causes the most concern for the public.”
