In the murky depths of a Telegram group called “RestoreYR War Room,” a small cadre of Young Republican leaders from New York, Kansas, Arizona, and Vermont swapped messages that mixed campaign plotting with raw bigotry. These extremists represented a fringe within the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF)—a 15,000-strong group spanning all 50 states—but they were a tight circle of about a dozen operatives hell-bent on seizing control with a hardline pro-Trump agenda. From January to August 2025, their 2,900 pages of chats, exposed by Politico (which verified their authenticity and redacted personal data), reveal a cesspool of hate.
Peter Giunta, then-chair of the New York State Young Republicans, led the charge with lines like “Great. I love Hitler” after a nod to picking the “most right-wing person.” He daydreamed about torture for opponents: “Everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber,” adding, “I’m going to create some of the greatest physiological torture methods known to man. We only want true believers.” Others piled on — Joe Maligno sneered, “Can we fix the showers? Gas chambers don’t fit the Hitler aesthetic.” Bobby Walker called rape “epic.” Black people were mocked as “monkeys” and “the watermelon people,” with slurs like “n–ga,” “f––t,” and “retarded” appearing more than 250 times. One member tossed out “1488,” a coded white-supremacist nod to “Heil Hitler.”
They joked, plotted, and escalated — knowing full well how damning it would be if anyone ever saw it. One participant wrote, “If we ever had a leak of this chat we would be cooked fr fr.” Yet they kept at it, crowing about Trump endorsements while praising slavery as “mega based.”
