Well folks, Senate Democrats are still holding the government hostage.
We’re now on Day 15 of the Schumer Shutdown, as Senate Democrats refuse to provide the votes needed to reach the 60-vote threshold to end their filibuster and bring the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) to the Senate floor for a vote. In fact, Senate Democrats have now voted nine times to keep the government shut down.
As you well know, this includes both of Georgia’s Democrat Senators, Ossoff and Warnock. That’s why I joined two letters urging Senators Ossoff and Warnock to:
- Abandon their partisan politics and help end the government shutdown, which is negatively impacting Georgia families and farmers [read the letter HERE]; and
- Release $531 million in Hurricane Helene relief funding for Georgia farmers by voting to reopen the government [read the letter HERE].
In addition to disruptions to critical benefits and delayed assistance for Georgia farmers, the Schumer Shutdown is also hurting the Peach State’s economy and small businesses. According to the Council of Economic Advisers, Georgia’s Gross State Product will decline by approximately $458 million each week the shutdown continues, which is roughly $2 billion per month. Since the Small Business Administration’s loan distributions are also frozen during the Schumer Shutdown, Georgia small businesses will face delays of around $131 million under a month-long shutdown of the federal government.
Our service members were also set to miss their first paycheck today, as Senate Democrats have repeatedly prioritized giving health care to illegal aliens over giving pay to our troops.
Yet thanks to President Trump, our service members will receive their rightful, hard-earned pay. Over the weekend, President Trump announced that his Administration identified funds to pay our troops on October 15th. Trump confirmed that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has been directed to use this funding to pay our courageous service members, adding that he refuses to allow the Democrats to hold our military and our national security hostage in their dangerous government shutdown.
This is wonderful news! I’m thankful to President Trump for delivering for our troops.
Throughout the Schumer Shutdown, Democrats have revealed their true priories, including health care for illegal aliens and COVID-era Obamacare subsidies that enrich insurance companies. In the face of their radical demands, Republicans in both Congress and the White House have remained united in reopening the government and supporting America First policies.
