GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia's 2nd Congressional District
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi John,
As you know, Swing Left is laser-focused on helping Democrats win in close
swing districts in order to flip the House in next year’s midterms. And
it’s how we’re going to be able to put a real legislative check on Donald
Trump and the MAGA agenda.
One of the key districts we’re targeting is Virginia’s 2nd Congressional
District, where GOP Representative Jen Kiggans has repeatedly put politics
over people.
Her record speaks for itself:
➡️ She disrespected workers who were laid off by DOGE, even though 1 in 10
people in her district are federal workers. When asked about federal
workers laid off by Trump’s DOGE cuts, Kiggans dismissed concerns, saying
they should just “go out and get” another job.
➡️ She supported huge cuts to rural healthcare. Kiggans backed Trump’s
“One Big Beautiful Bill,” which axed $900 billion for Medicaid and $137
billion for rural healthcare. Three rural health clinics in Virginia are
shutting down as a result of that bill.
➡️ She voted to slash veterans’ services, cutting the Department of
Veterans Affairs budget by 22% when her district is home to over 80,000
veterans—making up about 15% of the district’s population.
Kiggans’ votes show a disregard for working people, veterans, and rural
communities, all while helping Trump and the ultra-wealthy. In fact, a
recent legislative scorecard shows Kiggans has sided with Trump on 100% of
the votes she’s made this Congress.
But here’s the good news: Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District is one of
the most flippable seats in next year’s midterms. Kiggans won by just a
few points in 2024, and independent analysts are calling this race a “Toss
Up.” She’s vulnerable—and we have a real chance to flip this district.
But our ability to hold GOP Representatives like Jen Kiggans accountable
and help Democrats flip the House next year will be determined by what we
can accomplish right now—while it’s still early. Together, we can invest
in the organizing work and high-impact voter outreach strategies it’ll
take to win this seat and swing the balance of power in this country.
