John,
As a former ER nurse, I've seen firsthand the devastating impact of gun violence — and the trauma that extends far beyond the emergency room. Each incident chips away at the safety and peace we deserve in our daily lives.
This isn’t just a political issue for me, it’s personal. It’s about my family, your family, and every Wisconsinite who worries each time they hear about another act of needless, preventable violence. No parent should have to wonder if their child will come home from school. No one should be afraid that their loved one could get caught up in an act of violence.
Growing up in a family of hunters, I learned that we can honor the Second Amendment while also keeping kids out of harm’s way. I was surrounded by responsible gun owners who understood that firearm safety is simply common sense. They instilled in us the importance of keeping firearms secure, respecting them, and integrating safety into our traditions.
But today, gun violence has become a leading cause of death for young people. This is a public health crisis — and it’s one that demands our attention. The good news is that we have the tools to solve it. We have the research and data to guide us, but we need the courage to act. Just as my family practiced responsible gun ownership, we can deliver that same safety and accountability through common-sense legislation, like universal background checks and red flag laws.
But to make our communities safer, I need your support. If you believe in a future where our safety and freedom go hand-in-hand, I urge you to join us. You can help us build a Wisconsin where our loved ones come home at night, where safety isn't compromised, and where every community thrives without fear.

I hope you’ll join me as we work to save lives and the future we want for our children.
