Neighbors,
It’s been over two weeks since Governor Walz proposed framework for a special session [ [link removed] ] to address gun violence, in hopes that the GOP would put people over politics and partner with Democrats to curb gun violence in Minnesota. Instead of meeting the moment to deliver the change Minnesotans are demanding, Republicans have chosen to remain wholly unserious and unwilling to come to the table [ [link removed] ] to even discuss protecting our kids from future tragedies like the one we witnessed at Annunciation in September.
I had held out hope that my Republican colleagues would decide that our children are more important than their gun lobby campaign donations, but their true colors are on full display once again. It’s baffling to me that not one Republican is willing to admit that we have a gun problem in this country. Instead, they are digging their heels in, even calling having assault weapons a “God-given right.” [ [link removed] ] This rhetoric is tone-deaf, insulting to the grieving families of Annunciation, and just cruel to all of us who have been victim to gun violence.
Even though House Republicans refuse to act to address gun violence, we’re not going to stop fighting. Under the DFL Trifecta, we passed common-sense gun legislation that has already saved lives [ [link removed] ], and we will build upon that work. But we need your help to do it. If gun violence has touched your life or community, we invite you to share your story so your voice can help shape the change we are fighting for at the state legislature. Your story matters. Please share the impact of gun violence here. [ [link removed] ]

FARM TO TABLE
I had the pleasure of visiting Winona High School to witness and learn more about the great work they’re doing in their Farm to School program as part of National Farm to School Month [ [link removed] ]! The program aims to keep food supply sources local [ [link removed] ], and we got to indulge in some wild rice turkey brats from Ferndale Farms in Cannon Falls, which were made entirely with Minnesota-grown ingredients. Some of the food was extra local – the students help grow lettuce right in the cafeteria!
Supporting regional agriculture is incredibly important. What made this visit even sweeter was that for the students at Winona High School, this local lunch was free thanks to Minnesota's Universal School Meals program.

Experience Working at the Minnesota House!
Applications are now open for both the 2026 High School Page Program and the Undergraduate Internship Program!
The High School Page Program [ [link removed] ] is open to high school juniors (grade 11) who are interested in learning more about the innerworkings of state government. 2025 marks the 50th year of the Page Program, and I would love to see more students from Rochester take part in this great experience.
If you are or know or a college student who is interested in state government, applications for the House Undergraduate Internship Program [ [link removed] ] are also open! House interns are assigned to serve in a member’s office or participating department for a minimum of 6 hours per week. Tasks usually include things like research, sitting in on committee meetings, processing constituent inquiries, attending floor sessions, and more. A weekly stipend is available for students participating in the program.
