DAY 15 OF THE DICK BLUMENTHAL/CHRIS MURPHY GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

Middletown, CT-- “Today marks Day 15 of the federal government shutdown, brought to you by Senators Dick Blumenthal, Chris Murphy, and the Democrat Party,” said Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Ben Proto.

“Senators Blumenthal and Murphy continue to push the false narrative that passing a clean Continuing Resolution would somehow take away Americans’ healthcare. That is a lie, plain and simple. The truth is, the CR simply keeps the government open at the same Biden-era spending levels Democrats themselves supported. It makes no cuts to health care, no cuts to SNAP or WIC, no cuts to veterans’ services. It just keeps the lights on and the paychecks going while leaders negotiate future priorities. That is the responsible, adult way to govern.”

“What Blumenthal and Murphy don’t want Connecticut voters to know is that this shutdown is completely unnecessary. The Continuing Resolution would fund the government exactly as it has been up to September 30, 2025. It’s the same budget Democrats voted for. The only reason we’re in this mess is because Democrats in Washington refuse to come to the table unless they get 100 percent of what they want, without hearings, debate, or compromise. That’s not governing. That’s arrogance.”

“President Trump and Republican leadership have made it clear: they’re ready and willing to negotiate on healthcare subsidies, on nutrition programs, on veterans’ care. Unfortunately, Senators Blumenthal and Murphy, together with the Senate Democrats, would rather hold the government hostage than have an honest discussion. Meanwhile, real people are paying the price. Connecticut families are struggling to buy groceries. Veterans are being denied timely care at the VA. Single parents are falling behind on rent and mortgages — all while our two Senators play politics.”

“Senators Blumenthal and Murphy need to stop the games, stop the grandstanding, and do their jobs. Vote yes on the CR, reopen the government, and then sit down like adults to work through the differences. This isn’t complicated — unless, of course, you care more about headlines than hard work.”
