If you’ve scrolled through the news lately, you’ve probably seen headlines about Democrats being lost, divided, or without a path forward.

We’re as tired of them as you are. But here at Contest Every Race, we know the answer is leaving no race uncontested and supporting local county organizing.

Across the country, local Democrats are stepping up to rebuild their local parties from the ground up — volunteering in their community, recruiting candidates, and reconnecting their neighbors to the Democratic Party.

That’s what Contest Every Race was built for: to ensure every community has a Democratic team, every race has a Democratic candidate, and every voter has a Democrat to vote for.

This year, we accepted 390 local Democratic teams into our grants program — but more than 1,200 applied. That means we can only support about 31% of the communities ready to organize, run candidates, and take back local power.

With each team we move from our waitlist into our program, that’s one more community that will be ready for the 2026 midterms — when tens of thousands of local offices will be on the ballot. (And, if history holds, more than half of these races will see Republicans running uncontested.)
