John – Today, active-duty military members will not receive a paycheck for the first time during the ongoing government shutdown.
I co-sponsored a bill to ensure that servicemen and servicewomen keep earning their salaries in a shutdown – as Congress has done in the past – but House Leadership didn’t even allow a vote before sending Members home.
Frankly, it’s a shameful failure of our duty – the brave men and women in uniform deserve better.
So many military members and their families live paycheck to paycheck, and they can’t afford the uncertainty of not knowing when their next payday will come.
Those who put their lives on the line to serve our country should never have to worry about going without pay. If you agree, please add your name here to show your support for our troops:
John, this is exactly why I’m refusing to accept pay while the government is shut down. To me, it’s unjustifiable for Congress to be paid for failing to fulfill our most basic duty of funding the government, especially while working families, our economy, and our troops bear the burden.
I’m grateful to have you with me in this fight.
