The stakes could not be higher.

This week, Trump’s Supreme Court is hearing Louisiana v. Callais — a case that could destroy what’s left of the Voting Rights Act, one of the most important civil rights laws in American history.

If Trump and his MAGA allies get their way, Section 2 — the provision that bans racial discrimination in voting — could be overturned.

That would open the floodgates for Republican-controlled states to gerrymander up to 19 new congressional seats, silencing Black and Latino voters and locking in GOP control of the House for a generation.

Trump’s fingerprints are all over this case. His administration has already directed the Justice Department to argue that Section 2 is unconstitutional, siding with extremists in Louisiana who claim protections for minority voters are “unfair.”

Let’s call this what it is — a full-scale assault on democracy.
