Right now, the United States Government has been shut down for over a week — that means that there’s no funding for federal employees and certain federal agencies.

Why? Because Republicans don’t want to lower health care costs and instead would rather see them dramatically rise in January — for everyone. 

I promise you it’s that simple. Democrats want to make sure that American families can afford to see a doctor or fill a prescription. They want to undo the disastrous Medicaid cuts that passed in July. But Republicans won’t come to the table. 

Republicans hold the majority. The power — and the responsibility — to keep the government open is theirs. But instead of working for us, they’re working to protect huge giveaways to billionaires.

They think that lying about undocumented immigrants will convince us to look the other way, but they’re wrong.

Our community doesn’t just want action on health care, we need it. Our community has some of the highest numbers of Medicare and Medicaid recipients in the nation. 

When I’m elected to Congress, I will make affordability my top priority and that starts with lowering health care costs. I’ll work to undo the cuts made to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security and expand access to affordable health care, not shrink it. And, I’ll pass legislation that cuts taxes for those who care for their elderly parents.

None of these plans are impossible, John. This seat is winnable — it was held by Democrats just a few years ago. We can flip this seat back to blue, take back Congress, and get to work lowering health care costs!
