Email from 40 Days for Life The light shines in the darkness John, 40 Days for Life vigils have saved nearly 26,000 babies from abortion because of the peaceful, loving approach that our volunteers take on the sidewalk. That approach becomes even more important when the abortion center is covered in chaos. The facility in Atlanta blares music to interfere with Sidewalk Outreach...while a non-40 Days for Life group opposes abortion with anger and condemnation. The circus-like atmosphere led to a recent pro-abortion HBO documentary. "Can you imagine pulling in there and seeing all this craziness go on?" asked Cathy, the Atlanta leader. "This makes the abortion clinic seem like the safe place." It isn't always pleasant, but Cathy and her team's willingness to pray and witness in the midst of the chaos ensures that abortion-minded women encounter the love of Christ before and after their abortions... ...and that's why they've saved FIVE babies this campaign! The total number might be even higher, as Cathy reported a number of encounters that appear to have resulted in life decisions--though without confirmation. The Atlanta team has been blessed during this fall campaign with an infusion of youth. "I had the youngest group of prayer warriors out there today," Cathy said. "All these people were in their 20s and 30s and one high-school young man and his girlfriend." The high-school couple drive an hour to pray--and then they have to walk a half-mile to the vigil because of limited parking. "The younger generation is blowing this out of the water," she continued. "I'm so proud of them for coming." Berwyn Heights, Maryland A couple considering abortion entered the parking lot and deliberately parked near the vigil participants to see what they had to say. "Our volunteers engaged them in conversation about their situation, easing their fears and opening their hearts," reported Robert, the first-time campaign leader in Berwyn Heights. "They also provided literature to the couple on fetal development, alternatives to abortion, and where they could find help." After just a few minutes, the couple left the abortion center without ever having stepped out of their truck! Bob wasn't ready to say that the couple had definitively chosen life--but it certainly looks promising. "Please pray that this couple stands firm in their choice of life for their child," he said. Centralia, Washington Judy organized a 40 Days for Life prayer rally featuring a moving talk from Rachael, who became pregnant at 18 years old. "By God's abundant grace and with the help of her boyfriend and now-husband--28 years together--they had a beautiful baby boy and later a lovely daughter," Judy shared. "Rachael is one of the strongest, most passionate pro-life advocates on the sidewalk with us." After the event, an attendee shared that when she was a teenager, she was encouraged to have an abortion. But she experienced complications because the abortionist failed to address an Rh factor incompatibility. "She regrets aborting her baby and finds meaning and healing through praying with 40 Days for Life," Judy said. "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” --John 6:9 Lord, you multiplied the meager offering of one boy to feed a hungry crowd. Please do the same with our humble prayers. Multiply the fruits of these 40 days. Use our own resources to glorify your name. Grant us the humility to know our limitations, the wisdom to turn to you in moments of distress, and the grace to carry out your will with trust and courage. Amen.
