Donald Trump just said he’s open to invoking the Insurrection Act if federal courts block him from sending the National Guard to Democratic-controlled cities. 

Let me be clear, John. Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in cities like Portland, Baltimore, and Los Angeles is not only dangerous – it’s illegal. 

But invoking the Insurrection Act would give Trump license to weaponize the military against US citizens just because he disagrees with them.

And coming from a President who was impeached for inciting an actual insurrection in 2021? Give me a break. 

I’ve spent my entire career in Congress protecting our democracy from foreign and domestic threats, and I won’t let it be fractured by a 34-time felon and wannabe King.
