July is National Parks and Recreation Month, so today I wanted to recognize the extraordinary beauty of Alaska’s national parks and public lands.

Alaska is home to eight National Parks, covering 3.3 million acres. For perspective, the entire state of Connecticut is 3.5 million acres. We also have more state parks than any other state in the country, including Tikchik State Park, which is the largest in the nation.

Most weekends, weather permitting, you can find my family out enjoying all of the natural beauty Alaska has to offer. Just last weekend we were at Matanuska Glacier, the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States.

Right now, the number one threat to Alaska’s public lands is climate change, thanks to rising temperatures, coastal erosion, melting permafrost, and broken ice. In Congress, I will fight to protect our natural environment. That means listening to experts and trusting science in order to make informed decisions about our future.

If you value our public lands as much as I do, I hope you’ll chip in to our campaign. Together we can preserve what makes Alaska such a unique and beautiful place.
