There’s A LOT happening during this Republican government shutdown–and mostly all of it is bad. So, we’re here to break it all down for you and show you how Republicans are working against the American people.

FIRST: Republicans, at the request of Donald Trump, refused to fully fund our government. More than 750,000 workers across the country have been furloughed, forced to stay home instead of taking a paycheck.

THEN: Despite signing the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act in 2019, ensuring all federal employees receive back pay during a shutdown, Trump is on record saying some workers just "don't deserve back pay." He's completely going against his own word to protect federal workers.

NOW: Trump is directing his administration to start laying off these furloughed workers, using the government shutdown as a ploy to strip government agencies of hardworking Americans. 4,000 federal workers have been fired from their jobs, with the potential for more layoffs to come in the future. Agencies hit the hardest include the Department of Education and Health and Human Services.

john–this isn’t just bad governing. This is targeted action by Republicans against Democrats. Trump said it himself, he’s going after “Democrat programs” in our government as the first places to get rid of federal staff.

But these are not “Democrat programs.” Programs that uplift our children in school, that give aid to those suffering from mental health issues, that help us prepare for future public health crises are supporting ALL Americans, and they don't deserve to be used as political pawns in Republicans’ government shutdown game.

What Republicans are doing to our government is shameful. How can anyone tell our federal workers and their families to just "hang tight" while Congress sits on its hands? We can't let this continue.
