YES on 50! A Panel Discussion w/ California DSA
|
Wednesday, October 15 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
|
Why should socialists support Prop 50? What does this ballot measure mean for the fight against right wing authoritarianism on the federal level? What is the role that California can play in this fight? We are one of the biggest states; we have the biggest economy; and we pay more into the federal government than any other state does. Not only that, but we have one of the strongest labor movements and immigration justice movements. In this moment, can California lead in the way in the fight against fascism? What would that look like, and how does Prop 50 fit in?
Join us for a socialist discussion of Prop 50! We’ll hear from Lorena Gonzalez, the President of the California Labor Federation; Carol Kim of the San Diego Building Trades, and Astra Taylor, author of the book “Democracy May Not Exist, But We’ll Miss it When it’s Gone.”

Film Screening with CD-13: The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
|
Wednesday, October 15 @ 6:00 PM; Barnsdall Gallery Theatre
|
Los Angeles City Council District 13, Office of DSA-LA member Hugo Soto-Martínez, has partnered with Barnsdall Gallery Theatre and the Department of Cultural Affairs to present "Lens on Life" – a monthly film screening series, held on the third Wednesday of every month, in the beautiful 300-seat Barnsdall Gallery Theatre.
For this month's, DSA-LA is proud to co-present a screening of Luis Buñuel's classic 1972 film, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie.
The film takes a surrealist approach to class analysis, exploring the psyches of a group of sublimely oblivious bourgeoisie dinner-goers through a series of comedic and increasingly absurd episodes.
Following the film, there will be an interactive discussion led by DSA-LA's Political Education Committee to explore the film's themes, many of which relate to our current political landscape.
The screening will be preceded by a small reception. In honor of spooky season, surrealist costumes are encouraged, but not required.
Doors & reception at 6:00pm Screening starts promptly at 7pm

Under orders from the Trump administration, fascist ICE agents descended on Los Angeles to conduct brutal raids at our workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods. Training and support provided to first time canvassers.
