Folks,
I’m proud to be a lifelong Iowan. I was born and raised in the Hawkeye State, and before becoming the Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, I spent my career teaching in small schools, operating my family farm with my husband and kids, and working for our communities in the State Senate.
Like most Iowans, I feel frustrated by the direction our state has gone. Trump’s tariffs and rising costs are hurting farmers—I know from personal experience how this can play out for farmers’ futures.
Recent reports show that tariffs could cost Iowa’s soybean industry up to $1.5 billion. Meanwhile, fertilizer, seed, and machinery costs continue to rise, and the amount of Iowa farmers filing for bankruptcy has increased by 55%.
Iowa’s agriculture is the backbone of our economy and instrumental for the country. Every single one of our federal representatives knows this.
But when push came to shove, Republicans Zach Nunn, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Randy Feenstra, and Ashley Hinson all backed Trump in enforcing tariffs.
By voting for the Big, Ugly Budget Law, they showed us that giving billionaires tax breaks is more important to them than supporting the hardworking families trying to get by.
Our farmers deserve better; Iowa deserves better. The Iowa Democratic Party is rallying against short-sighted Republican policy decisions. Thousands of people are using their voices to object, and we’re here to make sure they’re ready to turnout at the ballot box next November.
