The federal government has made a deadly situation even worse.

Only hours before the government shutdown, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a cheap, new generic version of mifepristone -- even while the abortion drug is "under review" for its dangerous effects on women!

This is inexcusable.

This reckless decision comes amid growing evidence that 11 percent of women who take mifepristone experience serious complications from it -- not to mention the drug's intended purpose: to end the lives of unborn children. Yet instead of halting distribution, the FDA approved another version of the drug -- opening the floodgates even further.

As I've said before, under current Biden-era policies, abortionists are operating like Amazon, except it's life-ending drugs they're shipping with the click of a button.

The Trump administration must change the Biden-era policy that is undermining the pro-life laws that dozens of states have enacted since Dobbs recognized their right to do so.

This is lawlessness, plain and simple, and it's killing children and maiming women.

Federal law is clear: the Comstock Act prohibits mailing abortion drugs. Yet the Biden administration reinterpreted this long-standing law to permit abortion drug trafficking -- sending mifepristone into pro-life states in direct violation of both the law and the spirit of the Dobbs decision, which returned abortion policy to legislators.

Tragically, the federal government is still undermining pro-life laws across America.

But I believe we are at a tipping point.

STOP ABORTION DRUG TRAFFICKING

Let me share with you what Family Research Council has been doing to bring about this tipping point here in Washington. We've been working tirelessly to defend both women and the unborn -- and I believe our efforts are about to make a BIG difference:

• After the FDA's recent approval of a cheap, generic abortion drug, our Government Affairs team and I have been working with members of Congress and their staff, highlighting our research on this topic and encouraging them to speak out against it. And, thankfully, just last week 51 Senators signed a letter to the FDA urging them to stop mifepristone distribution because it is so dangerous.

• Forty Baptist pastors representing 22 states joined me in signing a letter to President Trump, urging immediate action to halt the mail-order distribution of mifepristone.

• FRC's policy experts submitted three comments to the FDA regarding the dangers of mifepristone, and we have been pressing for an in-person meeting with FDA leadership so that I and other pro-life leaders can raise these critical concerns.

• As the government shutdown continues, our team of policy experts is hawkishly monitoring the progress on Capitol Hill to ensure there are no compromises when it comes to defending unborn life with taxpayer subsidized healthcare.

• With nearly 30,000 signatures from pro-lifers, FRC is preparing to deliver our petition to the White House -- ensuring the President and his administration understand that believers across America will not be silent while the mail-order abortion drug pipeline is allowed to continue.

JOIN FRC AND SAVE UNBORN LIVES

I'm also grateful to say my home state of Louisiana is taking action: Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a lawsuit challenging the FDA's lawless approval process. The lawsuit reveals that between April and June of 2024 alone, more than 600 mail-order abortions per month were conducted in Louisiana -- all from out-of-state activists defying pro-life law.

I am discussing similar actions with other state attorneys general.

If the sanctioned killing of unborn children and dangerous protocols for women were not enough, these drugs are also being used by abusers and traffickers -- often against a woman's will or without her knowledge.

Through the prayers and support of millions of believers, FRC is working to bring the moral clarity and courage our nation so urgently needs. Will you stand with us?
