WINDHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation has extended the closure of the two Great Falls Bridges over the Presumpscot River in Windham to October 16th from the original expected end date of October 9th for additional work. The bridges should reopen to the public on October 17th. This closure is for a bridge wearing surface replacement project. The Great Falls Bridges are located on Windham Center Road over the Presumpscot River and connect Windham to North Gorham.

Drivers should follow the marked detour route taking North Gorham Road to Standish Neck Road, make a right on Chadbourne Road and then a right on Roosevelt Trail to get to River Road. The detour will be clearly marked with detour signs along the entire route. There is currently a message board along each approach warning motorists of the closure.

This project will extend the lifespan of the bridge's existing deck and structural components.

The contractor on this project is Scott Construction Corporation of Portland, Maine. The contract amount is $398,567.60.
