We’ve seen this happen before in other countries.

John, in the United States of America, we have no kings. But Donald Trump believes he’s above the law.

This Saturday, Americans across the country will exercise our right to free speech by peacefully protesting and speaking out against Donald Trump’s authoritarian tactics, but Trump and Republicans are already trying to change the narrative, calling those of us who plan to protest “terrorists.”

I’ll be joining Arizonans at the No Kings Rally in Phoenix this Saturday.

I recently spoke on MSNBC about Trump’s ever-increasing efforts to silence his critics. Here’s what I said:

Rep. Yassamin Ansari on MSNBC

“That is exactly what authoritarian regimes do. I know this firsthand, my parents fled an authoritarian regime to come to this country in the 70s [and] warned me growing up about all of the things that are happening here in the United States today. And I really hope that Americans — whether you’re a Democrat, Independent, or Republican — wake up to that, because now is the moment that we need to mobilize and organize and fight back.”

We’ve seen this happen before in other countries, John. My family more than most. The escalation of authoritarianism by the Trump administration should be alarming to all of us.

It’s up to each and every one of us to continue standing up against this administration. I’m speaking out as loudly as I can, but I’ve been the subject of Republican attacks before, and this will only make me a bigger target. Will you chip in to help me fight back?
